Online microteaching is a major aspect in today’s digital world, thus requiring consistent practice and reflection to ensure quality online teaching. Through delivering my online microteaching lesson on the topic of the relationship between the Sun and Earth in Natural Science and Technology, I was able to identify the components needed to establish a successfully taught online lesson. I used an interactive approach, combined with visual aids and an online interactive model of the solar system which was highlighted as one of the best components of the lesson. This model provided an interactive platform with the solar system, understanding the position of different elements in Space and the qualities the different elements possess.

The Canva presentation was effectively created and developed to enhance the visuals of the Sun and Earth ensuring a higher level of interest and focus when delivering the core content, alongside an online solar system model, allowed the students to visualize complex concepts effectively creating a deeper understanding of the content. This provided a well-versed understanding of the properties of the Sun and Earth and the impact of solar energy on Earth. My peers were actively engaged in discussion and the inquiry-based learning that took place which allowed me to identify the quality of my teaching from an online perspective. However, a challenge did rise during the teaching and learning process in which many platforms were open on my laptop whilst teaching my lesson, such as the CANVA presentation and the online model of the solar system which slowed down my laptop as both platforms were large in size. In addressing this challenge, I ensure that I exited the online model of the solar system whilst I was using the CANVA presentation and further exit the CANVA presentation when sharing my screen to present the online model of the solar system.
The lesson successfully met the learning objectives of the lesson in which my peers were able to answer the questions I had created on the properties of the Sun and Earth, and being able to relate to the importance of solar energy in our every day lives. The CANVA presentation and interactive online solar system model can be identified as an effective choice of ICT tools for the lesson as both tools provided a visually appealing approach to present the content. They were further able to interact with the content individually in their own time, providing them with extra resources that can be used outside of the teaching and learning process. This experience has taught me that online learning can be just as engaging as a traditional classroom setting in which learners can be exposed to the digital world of education. I learnt that when teaching online, I need to be able to think quickly and be adaptable if any technical issues may arise to keep the flow of teaching and learning throughout the lesson. With the feedback of my peers, I can refine my online lesson plan according to their guidance, such as providing an easier explanation and understanding of the use of solar energy and to further check in with each learner during the lesson. Overall, this experience contributes significantly to my journey as a teacher, which allows me to be better equipped for the future of education.
